I have studied, learned, and applied the best traits from several superiors, community leaders, coaches, and family members. I have taken the best of these traits and shaped them into my own leadership style. I believe leaders are born, but the best learn from their mistakes and work to not repeat them.

Golden Rule

I believe in the principle of the Golden Rule. Treat others just as you would like to be treated.  I believe in leading by example and not asking anyone to do anything I wouldn’t do or haven’t done myself.  I believe in leading from the front and not the back. I believe in having the backs of your employees, being respectful and rectifying a problem privately if they do something wrong. I want to work with others not them working for me, we are a team. In this situation I am the head coach but understand that I don’t know it all. The leader that thinks they know it all is failing from day one. A great leader admits when they are wrong.  A great leader knows his resources and where to go to get the answer. I am that leader.

Reaching Out

When I became the Lieutenant of our detective division my Sergeant and I reached out to all the agencies in the county that we work with. We met with the prosecutor, several of his attorneys, investigators, leaders of the department of child services, and every law enforcement agency with the exception of one that wasn’t able to schedule a time to meet with us. We sat down with a list of our detectives names, contact information and what it is that each one has to offer. I will do the same as your sheriff. I will continue to reach out to the leaders of the same agencies in Tippecanoe County, surrounding county sheriffs, and chiefs of police. I will let them know we are here to help. Several of them I already know and have a good rapport with. Others I hope to build the same relationship with and look forward to working with them in the future.

Helping Succeed

I believe in putting people in a position to succeed. In order to do this you have to work with people to identify their strengths and weaknesses. We will not only put their strengths to use, but we will give them the resources to strengthen their weaknesses. This will give them the opportunity to better themselves and take their career to the next level if they desire. I believe strongly in putting others before self.  On behalf of our department and community I will attend numerous meetings and events to continue to educate myself of the needs of our department, other agencies and the community. In order to do this, I have to get out from behind the desk at times and work directly with my team whenever I can.

My promise

If elected I promise to get out and work with my team when I can, just as I do today.  I will make it a priority that my vehicle be outfitted like other team members. I will help take calls and be present at major scenes and weather events offering assistance if I can.  My aspiration is to be Sheriff of Tippecanoe County. This is what I have prepared for my entire career. My sole focus is 100% on the employees of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of  Tippecanoe County. I am not above passing out food trays, I did it before and will do it again, I am not above preparing a mop bucket, I have done it before and will do it again. I will be there to do whatever I can to make our department better.  I will be there for the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Tippecanoe County. I am Bob Goldsmith and I will be 100% YOUR Sheriff. I thank you for your time and I am asking for your vote this general election. Once again, thank you to Landon for his video making skills.
